Rhubarb 16 Nov, John (Australia - temperate climate)
I have moved rhubarb at many different times of the year. I remove nearly all of the leaves and watered it well after transplanting. it recovered fairly quickly. Winter is the ideal time.
Beans - dwarf (also French beans, Bush beans) 05 Nov, Barbara Hayes (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
This is the first time I have grown dwarf beans, they have started to die, they are going brown, then disappearing, I'm not sure if they are being eaten, I fed them when I planted them, & have get them watered, they are planted in a bed with beetroot, what can I do to save the rest of them With kind regards Barb Hayes
Beans - dwarf (also French beans, Bush beans) 16 Dec, Mike (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Probably bean fly laying eggs just above the ground in the stem of the plant. The lave eat the inside of the plant stem - it just dies. I plant in the spring now not the autumn - problem solved.
Silverbeet (also Swiss Chard or Mangold) 04 Nov, cheryl (Australia - temperate climate)
i have had this silverbeet for over 12 months and it has been really healthy but it has started to flower and i don't know what to do. should i cut it right back or just cut the flowering part out? thanks in advance for your help.
Silverbeet (also Swiss Chard or Mangold) 10 Nov, Steve (Australia - temperate climate)
As the weather warms up this causes the plant to go to seed. Plant a new crop and if you have the space leave your old crop in and continue picking until your new crop is ready. Steve
Radish 04 Nov, lana (Australia - temperate climate)

I have read that that can happen if you leave them in too long, could that have been the case?

Potato 02 Nov, ken barker (Australia - sub-tropical climate)

Potato 30 Dec, Paul (Australia - temperate climate)

Bunnings sell the toma verde variety in Johnsons seed packets.
Cucumber 01 Nov, Julie howe (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Do you need to manually fertilise the females flowers with male pollen like we do with pumpkin ?
Carrot 01 Nov, Danielle (Australia - temperate climate)
My daughter decorated and planted carrot seeds at Bunnings. The bunnings seeds were on cardboard like matches that you stick in the soil. There was multiple seeds on each piece so when do i split up the plants so they have room to grow? The green tops are still very thin and fine but are starting to get that carrot looking leaf.
Carrot 18 Nov, John (Australia - temperate climate)
I wouldn't as carrots don't like root disturbance. wait till some are edible size and use them as baby carrots
Broccoli 01 Nov, Lyn (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Why should broccoli not be planted in the same bed as capsicum? Too late for me this time, although both seem to be doing well.
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 31 Oct, elizabeth (USA - Zone 5a climate)
can you plant the seeds from the fruit?
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 29 Jun, S (USA - Zone 7a climate)
I brought some Uchuvas (the fruit of physalis peruviana) back from Colombia this past January. Maybe 10. I just put them barely under some soil in a pot. took me a little bit to sort out that they liked the sun but not direct, so I found a shaded area along the house and watered everyday. have a pretty good sized bush now, with a consistent roll of flowers, the first waves of which are now uchuvas growing in their lanterns.
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 04 Aug, Faith (USA - Zone 5a climate)
I have them on a full sun spot, does that reduce the yield of the fruit? I grew them last fall( overwinter in the house). I moved them outside this May or June. It just started to flowering now.

Last week of September, right now is the peak Poha time for SE Wisconsin, the fruits started being picked late August, from seeds started indoors mid April - not too early. Hopefully the '38 degrees or below' won't arrive to kill off the plants for a few more weeks. It's a great ending for this summer. I've been growing these for over 10 years, each year trying something new. My first seeds back then, which I no longer grow, was the variety was (?)
Rhubarb 31 Oct, Gary (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Hi, I live in Brisbane Australia and my rhubarb is in its first year of planting and is doing quiet well, do I let the stalks and leaves on the first year and then just drop off or do I pick them off Thanks Gary
Rhubarb 17 Nov, John Mauger (Australia - temperate climate)
The leaves on rhubarb, asparagus, etc., are building up the crowns. If your soil is well fed and there are plenty of stalks. taking a few shouldn't hurt. You will need to hold the plant at the base as you harvest so as not to pull the plant out or damage the root system which is soft and spongy
Choko/Chayote (also Chayote squash, christophene, chouchou, mirliton) 31 Oct, robert rowen (Australia - tropical climate)
can you freeze peeled choko for chips or baking thankyou
Choko/Chayote (also Chayote squash, christophene, chouchou, mirliton) 18 Nov, John (Australia - temperate climate)
I haven't tried it but would imagine it would thaw out soggy because of its high water content. Frozen Choko would be ideal to use in soup though. Chop it smll enough first.

Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 29 Oct, Vanessa (Australia - temperate climate)
Can i plant cayenne pepper seeds direct in the garden bed now that its a bit warmer?
Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 18 Nov, John (Australia - temperate climate)
Yes. That is what would happen naturally. Don't cover the seeds too deeply and mke sure they do not dry out.
