We constantly find potatoes growing in our compost (usually green ones I've thrown in) so I have long since stopped buying seed potatoes! Potatoes that are just starting to green, I just peel til they're not green anymore and never had any side effects. That said, one of our dogs ate a rather green potato while she was a pup...the associated get bill made for a very expensive potato crop that year...!

planted beetroot seedlings in june and just finished picking ,first time i have planted beetroot,i was worried that they didnt grow so went pull them out and found all the bulbs where above ground.and we have roasted them,and are delicious.

Hi everyone. I got my seeds recently online from EDEN SEEDS. all pure and non hybrid. Very excited because they have sprouted this week after a couple of weeks being planted if that. Just been outside planting more seeds LOL. I'm on the Sunshine coast inland. 23 degree days 13 nights.

You can plant earlier than us, i will be planting end of next month September. I got a lot of okra seeds, I have been planting for the last 3 years and this year i have so many seeds.

What soil will gooseberries best grow in. I have managed to grow some from seed but they seem to wilt when they reach around 20/30 cm tall. I battle to get them to grow to full height and fruit.

If you r having problems with your scarlet runners flowering but not producing beans ,in late afternoons when the sun has gone ,give your vines a light misting with the hose ,making particular attention to fine spray all the flowers ,you will find this will work even after one or two applications ,avoid spraying if it's too hot ,and never in the heat of the day ,give it a go .Tony

Sweet corn is a warm season plant, and should be sown only after all chance of frost has passed, usually around 14 days after your district's average last frost date. Ideal soil temperature for germination is from 21 deg C to 27 deg C, and ideal growing temperatures from 15 deg C to 30 deg C. So, depending upon your local conditions it may be best to wait for warmer days in Sept or even into October if your climate is somewhat cooler during these months. You can check out average temperature ranges for your district on the Bureau of Meteorology website.

If I plant a seed, preferably 2 and put it out doors in June, will it have enough time to produce a vegetable by the first frost in November? It is August and I just got my first vegetable to start to grow. It took along time for nature to do the cross pollination. Thank you, Linda from Virginia Beeach

I'm in Port Angeles at 1,000 ft. I planted two Luffas (seed) in May. Only 1 produced fruit, and it only got about 7-8" long (3" in diameter). Are there any charts for altitude?
